You may have heard that it takes a potential buyer only 7 seconds to decide whether they want to buy your property or not – that is quicker than making a cup of coffee.
This is one of the main reasons why we want to put as much focus on getting your curb appeal and entry looking fantastic. Why, you may ask? It is the very first thing buyers will see as they approach your property.
Let me try and illustrate it this way.
On your birthday you receive 2 identical gifts. The first one looks like it has been wrapped by a toddler. The paper is all wrinkled, torn and sticky.
What will be your first emotion, your first thought when you see this present? You may already have some negative emotions towards this gift, even before you open it.
Now, you receive another gift.
This one has been wrapped so professionally. It has a big bow around the present and the paper is silky smooth and looks expensive. Now, what is your first emotion, your first impression of the second gift?
Do you almost expect it to be a more expensive gift than the first one? Even though you have received the same gift in both cases, what is your perceived value of each of the gifts, when looking at the way they are presented?
Which one do you prefer?
So the point I want to make is that it does not matter how big your house is or what your house has to offer. Buyers will see the curb appeal and entry as the “wrapping paper”.
Not sure about you, but for me, the most exciting part is unwrapping the gift. That excitement, anticipation of wondering what is inside, really excites me. When the potential buyer opens your door, this is the same feeling they get.
They are “unwrapping” your house, to see what is inside. So the first view of what your property has to offer, will either be a “wow” feeling or a feeling of disappointment. Your entry is the “first peek” buyers get into your home, it sets the stage for what is to come.
